More about Sensibilium.

How much more do you think we know?

Site Info

Or, only what Nolef wants you to know.

Sensibilium.com has been specially crafted to be customisable through your browser. It is viewable in any resolution you see fit to grace your monitor or other output device (base resolution 640x480), and you can change the font sizes as you see fit, although we would advise against going below 100%, otherwise the pages will become almost unreadable due to bad implementation of standards in todays browsers.

Our use of the new web standards in web design as set out by W3C, has meant that browsers such as Internet Explorer 4 (and below), Netscape 4.8 (and below), and Opera 4 (and below), will not see our full site design. Accessability to the content however, is still possible.

A recommended minimum specification of Internet Explorer 5, Opera 5, Netscape 6, and Mozilla/Firefox 1 is required to see our design. Sorry, but it really is about time you upgraded.

The Damn Guestbook was Nolefs initial project for the site, in which he first played about with database-driven websites. It was entirely coded by hand using only minimal tools such as Notepad, CuteHTML, and Textpad (the latter two for only the line-numbering functionality). The only part of the guestbook he had problems with was the paging facility, so he cheated, and used some code he found on a website somewhere). The Damn Guestbook is no more, btw.

The Writings Section and Spasms' Gumbo was his second and possibly largest project which utilised the power of Text Streaming that has allowed us to drastically reduce the amount of time spent adding either a new article/chapter to each subsection or adding new books. Once a new page is added to these sections as a text file, the contents pages are automatically updated to reflect the addition.

The Huge Feck Off Links List was Nolefs' next foray in database programming, allowing us to add offsite links without messing about with around ten different pages, as well as providing new functionality with hit counters on each link. This section was most recently updated to use Stored Procedures to speed up data access and allow members of our forum to add their own links. He recently added a search mechanism which at first only did a straight search on the term entered, but now splits the words up and applies logic to it. The search terms are also highlighted in the search results page, which Nolef considers as one of his greater achievements. Judging by the amount of time he spent on the highlighting, we understand completely.

Around the beginning of 2003, Nolef discovered a much better web-programming language, so he spent a good long time reprogramming our entire site, and converting our database system, it's still not totally finished, as he has yet to create the database administration pages, which is why you aren't seeing any additions to the links pages. Oh, and he hasn't bothered re-coding our link search engine because he cannot be arsed, and he said he would rather do it at work anyway.

As of February 2007,we moved into the first phase of the version 10.2 beta programme. The beta involved a rehashed neverBlog system, which allows for the creation of member accounts, as well as, for the first time in our history, opening article postings to our advanced members. Such members are also provided with a profile page, which includes all relevent user details, as well as a list of their own articles. Nolef also spent this time renaming all of the pages on this site to make use of URL ReWrite functionality.

Ahdkaw created the layout, design, and structure of the site, he also created the majority of our images, excluding our spectacular logo which was created by the hugely talented Ffarg. Our book cover images were created by several people including Horab Fibslager, Will, Zeno, and Ahdkaw.

We may use very tiny amounts of javascript on this site, so we suggest that you make sure you have javascript enabled, but the site won't cease to function if you have it disabled.

We are learning new stuff all the time so don't be surprised if you return one day and discover the entire place has changed. We are here to learn. This is our experiment.
