Farewell, toodlepip
Today I make the leap from Windows 2000 Pro to XP Pro on my client computer on my work network, for too long have I struggled to support my XP users over the phone only to find that the menu system and most of everything else is much different from Windows 2000 Pro.
I think I've avoided it for so long due to the fact that I have so much stuff installed, I am bane to have to do it all over again. But saying that, a lot of the software I have installed is no longer in use, so it's probably a good thing.
Another reason may well be due to my Office 2000 Developer install, which if I remember rightly was a real pain in the arse to setup, and I'm sure I'll have the same troubles when I reinstall. Thing is I need it setup up in a specific way otherwise I'll have trouble getting back developer access to my Access 2000 Front End and Back End Databases. I'm sure it'll be okay though, after all if I've done it once I'm sure I can do it again.
I think a 1GHz processor and 256MB RAM should be okay for an XP install, but I may have to bang the memory up to 512MB at least to get some real performance out of it.
Offshoot: I read a review of several dual-core motherboards in this months PC Pro (early subscriber edition), and I think I want one. Two processors, one computer? You can forget about waiting for Windows with one of those. And the best value motherboard only costs £77 inc. VAT. What is it?
Huh? Huh?
That's it.
