GTA IV & EFLC Modded Files Problem

Friday, the 14th of May, 2010 at 10:41am
This is a post which I will be using to update my online gamer friends about my current issue with Rockstar Games GTA IV and Episodes From Liberty City.

Having uninstalled and reinstalled GTA IV for months thanks to not being able to access legitimate multiplayer games due to a clearly false-positive on my account, which is suggesting that I am using modified files, when in reality, I have NEVER used modified files.

I have written to Rockstar Support regarding this problem for the second time, as after the first attempt I re-installed and had no problems connecting to legitimate multiplayer sessions hosted either by my friends or other random players.

Having paid something like £35 for the PC version of GTA IV (which was after buying and completing the PS3 version), and now a month ago spending £20 on EFLC, I have the modified files problem once again.

The response I receive is "This game does not allow modified files" and then I am booted back to the single player game, which doesn't even load my save game.

I can create and join modded games, but I don't see why I should have to put up with cheaters simply because Rockstar (or whoever) has for some unknown reason marked my account as being a modder. I say my account has been marked this way, simply because having correctly uninstalled, revoked my activation both manually and automatically, formatted my hard drive and reinstalled the OS along with the games, there is no other reason this could be happening.

If anyone else is suffering from this problem, I wish I knew them because both Take2 and Rockstar have stated that they haven't seen this issue before. I just have a gut-feeling that this is a lie, and I don't like being lied to.

I am still awaiting another response from Take2 (who are now handling my case) regarding my dxdiag (which will tell them nothing about my problem - they are trying to blame my hardware - which is an invalid assumption on their part).

Current setup: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, GTA IV & EFLC (fully updated), Games For Windows Live (fully updated), no firewall, no anti-virus.

i hate when shit like this happens.

anyways, speaking of GTA, tried the APB EU beta this past week. very interesting game. you should take a look at it.

has an interesting payment plan.

instead of a free month you get 50 hours before paying for a sub. after that you can either pay for 20 hours at a time or monthly unlimited.

I had a look at that APB, and it looks like the shiznit!! I'm not signing up for the Beta though, I have enough stuff to do as it is, but I'll definitely be looking into this when it gets it's release.

Right, so I have a completely new PC to install GTA IV and EFLC on, and this time I'm going to manually de-activate my installs rather than automagically.

I will also create a new Rockstar Social Club profile, as well as a new Games for Windows Live profile, just to be absolutely sure.

We'll see what happens.
