I'm a member of PPUK now. Gulp.

Wednesday, the 21st of July, 2010 at 9:35am
It has finally happened, I have waded into the murky world of politics and become a fully paid up member of The Pirate Party UK!

It's quite a step really, although I have supported them in the past purely in spirit, now well, that's all changed. I now have access to all the member areas that I used to have access to before they went proper official after the first successful internal elections (in which I voted).

Not had a lot of chance to go through and catch up with all the current stuff, what with work being essentially constant, but I'm sure I'll get around to it sooner rather than later. I may even have to try out the irc channels again, if they still have it (I would think so).

One little foible; I still have a 'Membership Pending' link on the homepage, dunno what that is about.

i've poked around the canadian pirate party website, but the activity is lacking.

the longest thread on the front page every time i visit is some guy complaining about getting drummed out of the online porn business because of pirates and the tubes. lolz.

Yeah, it's a shame they haven't taken the bull by the horns yet, after all zeropaid.com is Canadian and they're doing a good job of covering this new Canadian C-32(?) bill that your ever-so-caring government is trying to push through onto the statute books. Should make more canucks go crazy (wasn't "Canucks Go Crazy" a film?) that it presently appears to do.

i actually haven't heard much about that bill for a while now. either they're going to try and ninja it in as quietly as possible or it's dead. i hope it's the latter.
canucks are actually really good about paying for media too. we have faster and higher adoption rates of paid for content than the americans do for example. we just happen to hate ads in our blu rays and dvd's that can't be skipped or bad drm's and so we break it and rip it to our own discs both to avoid these annoyances and to preserve originals from scratches and degradation etc that happens from everyday use.

That's a good question about the C-32 bill, it hasn't been passed... yet.

Everyone should backup their DVDs and CDs. I'm not going to watch the same unskippable anti-piracy advert everytime I want to watch my DVD that I paid good money for.
