Testing...testing, 1 2 3.

Is this thing switched on?

My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.
AngusThermopile on Fri 23 Feb 2007 at 8:25am #
England too while your at it please.
ahdkaw on Fri 23 Feb 2007 at 8:42am #
Well, if it's like that, may as well just take out Europe altogether. Please.
AngusThermopile on Fri 23 Feb 2007 at 8:48am #
Well I suppose, I was thinking that without England we Scots would rule the UK.....

If the rest of Europe went though it'd be just us and then were would we go for cheap holidays?

Finally rebooted. ^^
ahdkaw on Sun 3 May 2009 at 3:27am #
wtf? not this old thread again.
AngusThermopile on Mon 4 May 2009 at 9:52am #
What the hell are you running? Win 95 on an enigma machine?
AngusThermopile on Mon 4 May 2009 at 9:52am #
Quotation marks sprout error messages.
ahdkaw on Wed 6 May 2009 at 9:44am #
What a truly stunning bug report. :D
4000MilesAway on Sun 12 Jul 2009 at 9:37am #
Speaking of bugs, what's with all the people that don't have links to their posts? did you send them to the guillotine?

Windows 95? Blasphemy. No! I'm running a secret project costing millions to develop the worlds slowest supercomputer Funded by US Tax dollars. With some minor tweaking I'll be able to make it crash before it's ever turned on. But that wouldn't be overly different to other military projects.
rdesign on Sun 12 Jul 2009 at 11:22am #
Those aren't bugs, that is what one might call a "feature."

However, we have now changed the permissions so that even users who have just signed up will be able to edit their profile, and that's before the approval process is complete.

Once the account is approved, the user will be listed in the members page, with a link to their profile, if they happen to fill it out.
rdesign on Sun 12 Jul 2009 at 11:37am #
Also in relation to the quotation marks bug, you were right Angus, and it took us this long to fix it. But thanks for the heads up anyway.
logicfish on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 3:41am #
hrm, cant see a profile editor but i`m on the members page.
can we have PM's? shoutbox would be nice too.
can i upgrade?
http://wyrdpress.com now has open submission;
a new is here http://links.logicfish.org.uk .

logicfish on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 4:08am #
^^^^a new linkdump is what i meant to put.
ahdkaw on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 6:27am #
The members page is really there for non-members, the place you want is the link 'Modify Profile' which should on the right-hand side below 'logged in as logicfish' on any of the pages on this site. If you don't see it, let me know and I'll look into fixing it.

As regarding PMs and a Shoutbox, bothj are certainly possibilities but I will have to write them from scratch so could be a little while. We'll put them on the 'to-do' list.

I can upgrade you, but you have to promise to be nice, not to hurt anyone, and not to spam us with crap. :p

Ta for links. Have you got a 80x15px GIF for each of thiose sites? Also, please remove that horrible fucking advert that hovers at the bottom of your logicfish page(?), it took me a whole 2 minutes to block that. >:( ;)
logicfish on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 8:08am #
i do solemnly now do swear, lest my loins wither to likkle sqigley thinks, and mine eyes become conundrums lost in coils of phate.

logicfish on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 8:47am #
if you need any codes i can contribute?
i'm doing a lot in ajax, php, web apps,
and i'm looking at semantic web.

this looks promosing - ape server, search for ape_jsf - its a server-push framework with a standalone server in c.
http://logicfish.org.uk/APE_JSF/Demos/Chat/demo.html
if your experts wanted to use it i can leave the server running at mine.

my own demo site will open soon.

Platform? Simply PHP & MySQL on a lovely linux box. I don't use any third party software on this site, I used to but it got me into a lot of security bother all the time, so I decided to write my own code from scratch pretty much. Obviously some bits of code I've stolen, slowly understood how it works, and then changed them to my own requirements accordingly.

Thanks for the praise :) I will have to look into adding us to the your link directory as soon as possible.

As regards to ajax, well it would be nice if you can do ajax and can point me where I need to put stuff to make it work, that's entirely up to you, I'm shit at javascript.
logicfish on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 2:21pm #
thx for the upgrade. i will only post relevant content as i see it is low traffic.
may i embed the rss at wyrdpress? if so would you prefer a sidebar or a page?

we have a linux VM from bytemark. if anybody wants a site, drop me a line and i will donate one, and a domain, if you are nonprofit. will even build the site and put all the content, write your articles, in fact, dont tell me, i`ll make it now by seeing the future, with my per-domain tarot.
aaah, the emperor, i see you have big ears.

my own code for a site nearly ready, this week ..?
software demos and new projects.
cut-and-paste code for site owners.

scripts will be free to use but you must register.

i am planning an article on the blog about ajax; i can speed this up if any demand. start with w3schools, for all web protocols, js, .

ahdkaw on Mon 13 Jul 2009 at 4:33pm #
We have a lot of non-registered lurkers, we're not low traffic! :p

If you want to put the our feed into a sidebar, that would be okay with me, not sure how relevant the content would be for your site, but that's not my problem. :p

Looking forward to seeing the article, plenty of time though, we're on go-slow around here. Plus I'm currently working on the blog post page, so it may not work when you try it. If so, just leave it for a while and come back after I fix it.
logicfish on Tue 14 Jul 2009 at 2:13am #
i meant low as in volume of posts not readership
dont want to out-post other members - pushes them off the comments box. i wont post any blog until you say it is fixed.
ahdkaw on Tue 14 Jul 2009 at 3:53am #
I'll let you off then.

As regards to out-posting other members, I wouldn't worry too much, as the other members are far too lazy to post to anywhere but the blog comments.

But yes, if you could hold off until I have fixed the page properly, then that would be great. Plus it keeps Taz on top, which can only be a good thing. :)
logicfish on Tue 14 Jul 2009 at 5:17am #
cant you sticky her?
just have a sticky tag, put those at the top in your sql.

moved link dump to its own domain linkfish.me.uk
i nearly got linktoilet but thought better at the last minute.
ahdkaw on Tue 14 Jul 2009 at 8:06am #
I can give the tentative go ahead on the blog post page, I have made a few alterations (one based upon issues touched upon by 4000MilesAway in a skype chat, cheers).

You can now also add up to 6 tags per blog posting, 5 was just so unhip man.

As a further to all that, blog-enabled members can now disable comments on their blog entry if they so wish, and even lock the entry completely from further edits from yourself! This will also be used to lock older entries, but that will be automated at some future point.

As regarding stickies, it's a thought, and definitely a function that most sites have, but again, it could take a while to implement such a system. Another to go on the to-do list.
