Lovely upgrade time again!

Wednesday, the 25th of July, 2007 at 6:42pm GMT
Looks like I'm in need of a new PC. It seems that after taking my old desktop PC apart and testing various components of their "road-worthiness", I chose to listen to the BIOS shutdown beeps. 5 of them, 2 different tones. This page seems to be saying my motherboard is ready to keel over. As I had already reseated my memory, so it becomes that I need a new PC.

Unlike my previous builds, this time I'm specifically building it with openSUSE 10.2 in mind. There will be no Windows on the machine thank you very much. I've begun by checking the HCL before starting the build. I've picked out a motherboard, the ASUS P5LD2 SE, of which the Deluxe model is listed. Doesn't look as nice as the Deluxe.

Looking forward to it though, shiny new components to fit together again. Any recommendations of processor for the above board? Has to be an Intel of course, and it's Socket 775, so there aren't really that many options I suppose.

Only recently bought my AGP 8x nVidia card and now I'm gonna have to get a PCI Express card instead. May try and sell my AGP 8x on eBay perhaps, unless someone here wants it (for a price of course).

Still busy adding content to the new site I will be launching soon, regular readers and correspondents will know which site I'm talking about.

And finally, Runescape is still taking up a fair bit of time, and my skills keep going up.

Have a nice rest of the week.

Clink of the day.

Are you going for one of these new quad core or whatever? I heard their prices in the US just dropped about 50%. Course probably means they're about 200% higher here, very annoying.

Won't it be dark and gloomy without windows?
I heard from a very good source that instead of playing Runescape you were hiring yourself out as a bit of northern rough :P Whatever that means.

No to the quad core, went dual core. It's only a web development server, doesn't need go-faster stripes or anything, it speeds along quite nicely thank you very much.

Gloomy without Windoze? Where have you been for the past ten years? We all know that Windoze sucks and Linux for teh win.

So have you built it now?
