so i spent the weekend casually getting into tsw. i thas some pretty cool stuff, but i only showed a few things in my videos.

for the most part even though the game does have quest helper, it's not very hand holdy at all. once you get to the area of the quest you're going to take some time finding the thing w/e it may be that you're there to look at or talk to or pick up or w/e. some are very obvious. others very much less so.

the guys in irc also seemed to have a grand time doing the ARG style investigation missions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3Zs-Hk3Ip8
there was a lot more options this weekend than in the previous dev demo videos, but still kinda weak. the female faces are ugly as fuck in my opinion, and don't really fit the bodies or clothes at all. i played around with teh character creation quite a bit though and made an imgur album for most of my creations- http://imgur.com/a/O6ufm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOYJP1Ywjm4
then i did up some video of the combat tutorial, which features the shotgun with some more advanced skills that you won't get for a while. nice thing is that if you've done this before in future betas or toons, you can choose to skip it by turning around and running up the stairs at the start of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFOq5cg0G-I
then i did some demonstration of shotgun + elementalism, which i found a little lacking. no commentary on this video as i was a little too drunk for it and too much into my music. so i just muted the whole thing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuU6jOVlkJs
so the next day i did a combat demo with commentary this time, although a bit derpy due to hang over with chaos magic and blades. iwas pleasantly surprised to find out chaos magic is kung fu style.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIhsujAMsRA
then finally here's a bit of a run down about the ability wheel and how it works. note there are probably better videos out there showing this better with better commentary.

all in all although i wish combat was more mobile or as mobile as gw2's combat, i was very pleased with the weekend. there were some minor bugs, i got a ctd when i tried to enter a certain area in dx11 mode that wasa fixed by using dx9 mode for a bit, but otherwise it's in a lot better shape than i remember aoc being at launch(funcom's previous mmo, with a infamous rep for being nearly unplayable at launch)

tbh it's not first impressions, but since i wasn't able to talk freely about it until now, this will have to do.

well lots of qq and people having issues connecting and errors and problems zoning and shit.

for our part we all ended up getting scattered for the most part and then the core of us got forced on teh last server we wanted to land on, because basically i knew that the people advertising the server were going to go cap the whole fucking wvw map as soon as they got in game and leave nothing for the rest of us, which they wen ahead and did in teh first couple hours.

anyways aside from that, and a few members getting log in errors, it was overall not too bad. some pretty hardcore lag, some low fps(though you'll see what low fps looks like in the video below, where i was hitting 15-20fps average but still very playable)
we didn't get to do wvw as planned which was a shame though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_X9MlHqWVM

theres a couple things i screw up in this vid. first you can't hear me talking about weapon switchign vs elementalist's attunment switching in teh first part.

later on i call something a skill point challenge which is out of date information. idk wtf it even was, i guess a DE.

i don't really show how mobile the combat becomes because i didn't get to teh content that you really need to run around at all times to progress through.

(or how i spend time between mmo's)

so i've basically been looking at my steam library lately and seeing there's a number of games i haven't played yet that i got gifted or bought at xmas. and since i've been basically dicking around doing a little of this or that on beer nights i decided why not do some let's plays.

i fyou'r enot sure what a "let's play" is, it's basicalyl a type of youtube video where some dick (me) records himself playing a game for the first time, or on a first playthrough. sometimes i have friends with me when i do mine, or not, but i always do them while drinking beers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2M4Mm3X-eE

so our first let's play is from psiderweb software, which is an old favourite and an early pioneer of the current indie game dev scene. i played a demo for a gmae by these guys back in 98 or 99 called exile3, which was later renamed to avernum 3. i got about 40-60+ hours out of the demo before hitting the edges. unfrotunately my parents weren't keen on shopping online back in those days, so i had to go without doing it. fastforward to earlier this month, and a friend in irc i had talked to about this studio months ago linked me the page of this game telling me it was on steam for $10. ofc i had to buy it, and it's only fair seeing as, if i on;ly played 20 minutes 10$ was a small price to pay for that late 90s experience.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIQvv06EcrA
my buddy sundial was bored and said he was haivng fun with the puzzles in trine. he asked me if i wanted to play, i said my game budget was drained, seeing as i'd spent 100$ on gw2 prepurchase, avadon, and some other game i forget, that i'm sur ei will link below. he said he'd gift it to me, and we went ahead and got some beers and spent a couple hours dicking around. as you can see i am terrible at both puzzles and platforming. as well i am terrible at drunk editing extended gameplay into something interesting and coherent within a 5 minute time frame.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPnkwWtxGHU
last xmas a few of us decided to buy each other xmas gifts via steam, and terraria was one that device bought me, but we hadn't played together yet. it's kind of a sidescroller platform version of minecraft. and as you can see i'm not too fond of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQhxkCNTY8M
this isn't a let's play, but after terrraria i needed a taste of the real thing, and ofc i missed my house. also device is an asshole.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg5NeiwirJM
this is what happens when you drunkenly decide to pick a random f2p game on steam to do a let's play. let's just say that i hate hate hate this game. maybe if i had a jstick i'd like it more.

so i ran out of money this month already doing drunken let's play videos, so i haven't made any more as of this post. maybe there will be more to come, who can say.

sorry i've stil got those let's play videos i've been doing coming to a post here, but in the meantime i've been busy scheming to have things set up for the future of our little network of friends and friends of friends who game together from time to time or regularly, and who hang out in mumble.

basically what i've done is set up a steam group and a facebook group.

current in game roster members playing with us are required to use at least one of these platforms to get news updates and so on. this allows me to stop posting things in about 6-7 different places.

people that aren't currently playing with us or regularly hanging out in mumble, are more than welcome to join either of these groups.

the steam group is public and can be found at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/flyingtuttys? you can also add me on steam by searching dirtyklingon. i have steam open at all times so it's handy way to IM me in a pinch.

the fb group is closed and you'll need to add me, which is probably best if i link you my fb addy on twitter via dm or on msn or steam chat.

i also have fb open all day so if you need to chat and steam IM is down it's good alternative.

as well a couple of us are in irc daily at quakenet in #fuck-hats . if you look for me there and highlight me by typing my name, and i dont perk up immidiately, you can leave a msg for me by querying me(double click name to open a private chat window).
dirtyklingon 2012-04-04T18:22:24-00:00 2012-04-04T18:22:24-00:00 2012-04-04T18:22:24-00:00 tag:www.sensibilium.com,T18:22:24-00:00/blog/cross-post-about-the-secret-world cross post about the secret world
i seem to recall there beign some interest in secret societies and conspiracies and other such nonsense around these parts, so here's a cross post about preordering the secret world yesterday, the upcoming modern day secret society/lovecraftian horror mmo from funcom due in june:

i preordered tsw yesterday simply because it’s not a wow clone and i have nothing going on in june(unless gw2 launches that month which is looking unlikely). i also managed to rekindle interest in the game in my friend device and we are now debating which faction roll- my vote goes to templar due to their desu attire, where as he is voting for illuminati becuase fucking gasmasks. lol.

so basically what this looks like is modern day setting with conspiracies and lovecraftian horrors to fight, and a similar idea to guild wars’ limited active skill bar, but add on a 7 slot passive skill bar as well and a mix and match skill rpogression system via some kind of multi ring wheel.

apparently the 3 factions can group up in pve, but can’t be in the same guild(which are called cabals), or pvp on the same team together. all three factions share the same social hub, but get different starting areas.

no doubt the world will be heavily instanced similar to funcom’s last effort, aoc, but no doubt it will make great use of quick travel because seriously it doesn’t fit that you would hav eto run through 20 maps to get from korea to egypt now does it?

ofc if you want some tru lulz go take a look at the option preorder extras packages. and as always and LTS offered at launch implies lack of confidence in the product and a desire to cash grab as much as possible as early as possible, nevermind the game will be similar to cryptic’s STO and CO in that it will be box fee + $15 sub PLUS f2p style cash shop with things like exp boosters and such. ofc they also just have to give you only 3 toons slots, which even though i rarely use more than 3 in these games, just feels like poor value for the dollar compared to other mmo’s with box fee + sub without cash shop nickel and diming.

ofc a nice thing in a way is the name reservation coupon with preorder. so i managed to get my first pick of names this time which was already taken in the 2nd round of invites in EGA of swtor on the server i played on.

i don’t reallyhave high hopes or any hopes at all. well i do hope it lasts me at least 2 weeks and gives me fodder and experience to write about for years to come as with many of the mmo’s i’ve played have done. beyond that, i just enjoy trying new mmo’s at launch to see how bad/intereing they are and where they innovate or fail to, or better yet, copy but do so in a subpar manner to that which they copy.

Flying tuttys Charter - or (FlyTts) on steam

We are a social casual guild. because we socialize alot and becasue we're baddies.

1 we use mumble. We will try our best to help you set it up, but quite frankly it's incredibly easy. Mumble is where the magic in FT happens. When we are in game it's where we do 99% of our talking.

1b- Mumble usage is entirely optional, but you are going to have difficulty running with us in groups and activities/events without it. Mumble is rated R for adult content of different kinds.

2 DK is the leader, mostly because he's the one with the time and patience to make things happen. We might have other members in leadership roles or officer positions of various types from time to time. We try not to abuse our in game/voip/forum powers, and we will not treat you like a child. That begin said, when a leadership team member - this doesn't have to be the GM - is giving directions, they should be followed.

3 Events/activities: there's a time and place for everything and the middle of a PvP fight is not the time to question the directions of the member leading that activity. It doesn't matter what rank you are, or what rank the current activity leader is, if the leader says run, you nyerking run.

3b If the leader, or anyone else, runs into a certain death situation, don't stand back and let him die alone, get in there and and die like a true hero.

4 We are not child/family friendly. This means we won't change the way we speak or behave because you happen to have your speakers at max volume and children are around. Also you should expect to get teased about things so if you can't handle it, too bad. This doesn't mean you can't invite friends, family or children into the guild, just know that they may or may not find the atmosphere likable.

5 AFK- first off you are going to be kicked if you make a habit of going afk during instanced PvP in order to farm gear without participating. This is not how the game is supposed to be played. That being said, IRL comes first, as well DK smokes like a mothernyerker so it would be poor sport to tell people they can't go afk. That being said, the middle of a pull or a PvP battle is a bad time to go afk.

5b Moderate and manage your afk breaks and most of all if you're in a group try to make them short.

6 Activity/event attendance and tardiness: Generally speaking we start raid/group invites 15 minutes before an event is scheduled. Not all events/activities are scheduled. Regardless, we do expect people who wish to take part to be at the meet up location and ready by the time the event is scheduled to begin. If you show up late, that's ok, but you'll have to catch up with the rest of us. For PvE activities such as raids, if you aren't on time we'll assume you aren't coming and attempt to fill your spot. Event and activity start times and dates are made with trying to have as high a turn out as possible.

7 Begging and RMT - we frown upon begging in public or gchat. However asking to borrow some tradable currency is not begging unless you are nagging about it so to say. Illegitimate 3rd party RMT is generally frowned upon, ie. buying accounts items, tradable currency, power leveling or other services with IRL money. Doing this will likely result on a gkick if you make it a habit or like to tell people about it.

7b Begging for dungeon runs is also a bad idea. That begin said, feel free to ask for runs. just don't expect the guild membership to run you through content all the time, we have stuff we want to do too.

8 Helping each other out with content: We all level at our own pace, some of us slower than others. We prefer not to pressure people to keep pace with our faster levelers, however if you are slower and want to see group content, while it's perfectly ok to ask people for help, keep in mind they may prefer to do so with higher level toons that may make the content trivial. that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

this charter is subject to change, at which time membership will be notified of changes.

this charter is subject to approval by the standing membership of FT.

http://www.polljunkie.com/iFA94s/View15568.aspx for results. poll closes april 10th.

if the charter is revised i will put up a new poll. regardless we will have a charter by apr 10th

i decided to go ahead and make a steam group for our little guild. i don't believ ei have any of you fine gents on steam yet though so i've decided to make the group public for the moment.

ofc you can if you wish add me on steam by searchign for "dirtyklingon". i retired the beermonster handle because 5 other people were using it, and it was easier to have people search this name instead.

anyways here's the regular browser link for the group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/flyingtuttys or you can search for it on steam.

people joining up or not will likely determine how useful it is to me and the guild membership in the future, but it should in theory serve as a light weight place to serve as a community hub in order to chat amongst ourselves, keep in touch and make plans and such.

especially given i just cba to properly admin my dead forums.
dirtyklingon 2012-03-14T15:17:55-00:00 2012-03-14T15:17:55-00:00 2012-03-14T15:17:55-00:00 tag:www.sensibilium.com,T15:17:55-00:00/blog/guild-wars-2-stuff guild wars 2 stuff
so with the announcement that gw2 is going up for pre*purchase* on apr 10th, i've been getting into the spirit of the typical prerelease lulz by gettin in on theaction of price disparity not being accounted for by currency conversion alone, one of my favourite things about game launches.

so i wrote up this tumblr blog* about it http://dirtyklingon.tumblr.com/post/19290142999/more-gw2-price-lulz

would you guys be interested in more gw2 related posts? is there interest among sensi readers to play the game? let me know in the comments below.

i'll be writing some drafts up in the next few weeks or months on what FT will be doing with gw2. there's alot of interest in the guild overall for gw2, but as usual there interest from friends of friends and some of those people would not mesh well with our culture, so i'll be working out how we can ally up in order to play together with friends even in different guilds and different regions**

*i migrated my paid hosting wordpress osftware blog over to tumblr due to not wanting to deal with zero readers + spam bots on a daily basis. although i still have my hosting paid for 9 more months i've disabled sign ups on my forum and comments on my blog for the time being, and will be posting new tl;drs from different places to teh tumblr blog. this shouldn't affect my posting habits here at sensi though.

**gw2 has a system where players on different servers can play together in pve at any time, but not fight alogn side each other in wvw. to do that you have to transfer home servers which will cost some kind of fee to be determined and is more long term and has a cool down and other restrictions.
dirtyklingon 2012-03-11T13:48:20-00:00 2012-03-11T13:48:20-00:00 2012-03-11T13:48:20-00:00 tag:www.sensibilium.com,T13:48:20-00:00/blog/realm-of-the-mad-god realm of the mad god
so i had seen this advertised on steam recently and it looked kinda interesting. ki decided i would look into buying it and much to my delight i discovered it's f2p, so i jumped right in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9XukkLHXew

it's basically one of those old school top down shooters from the 90s with 8bit art style for the gfx and wasd + mouse controls.

grouping is handled by sharign exp so to say automaticalyl with people nearby, you kill a mob they get full exp + you get full exp, same goes for if they kill a mob.

the leveling curve is really light. you can get to level cap of 20 relatively fast- but here's the catch. the game has perma death. yes, every time you die you lose the character. BUT you also get a form of currency called fame you can spend on stuff every time you die.

you alos unlock other classes by getting a class or classes to a certain level and then dying. for example i've unlocked the priest class by getting my wizard up to level 5. if i get a priest up to level 5 i unlock the ranger class. some classes require a level of 20 in a certain class. other classes require 2 or more class to hit a certain level.

there is a cash shop that seems to be temp buffs and cosmetic items, such as changing the colour pallette of your current toon. you can also buy character slots so you can have mroe than one toon on teh go at once. what you can't buy is weapons or armour or levels or permanent stat boosts.
