The finding of the snark

Count Zeno the Zetetic · Permalink · EasyPrint
« < O > »
  1. A Student of matters mystic once read the ineffable works of Lewis Carroll.
  2. And, being somewhat confused at the time, decided to try and find a Snark.
  3. Meditation can do this sort of thing to unbalanced personalities.
  4. But as this character was only 97% unbalanced he thought that the Snark was a metaphor.
  5. At first for government, then law, or love, or mind, or self or truth. Perhaps it was about that transcendent state people who meditate are always babbling about.
  6. He performed many a meditation upon the text.
  7. And many an intellectual study.
  8. And many an experiment.
  9. And many an occult ritual.
  10. And then he gave up and forgot about it.
  11. And time passed.
  12. And he grew in Wisdom.
  13. And in Cleverness.
  14. And in Wit.
  15. But mostly in Age.
  16. At last when all traces of a memory of a Snark had left his mind.
  17. A voice announced itself unto him. Not to the ear nor eye nor nose nor skin nor tongue nor intellect nor emotion nor intuition was this voice present. And yet it was there.
  18. It said, "Behold I am a Snark; that you thought was a metaphor".
  19. It said, "I bring you wisdom that ye shall enshrine in the teachings of the OTS".
  20. "Nothing is true
    Not even that
    Everything is permitted
    Including restriction
Those who look for answers will find mountains of dog turds
    And call them facts
Those who search for meaning will find raw sewage
    And bow down before it
    Don't let this disturb you
What would you expect from a bunch of monkeys?"
  21. "But ye may wish to know how to act in this world, Listen;"
"If you think you are right
    You are wrong
If you think you are wrong
    You are still wrong
Hence why take anything as serious or important?
    Or believe anything anyone says
    Or anything you experience
    Better to act sensibly
    Without attachments"
  22. At this Zeno was stunned, but recovering asked "What are you, oh mighty Snark?"
  23. "Nothing at all", then silence.
